AI intelligent?

Postby Joe Rodriguez » Wed Jan 01, 2014 5:53 pm

Although I had read about this sort of things related to AI in MSFS, I had never seen one myself. So let me share it with you.

These two guys were instructed to hold short several minutes before I turned into this taxi way. And then, I got the same instruction. Five minutes later, we were still looking at each other. So I just ignored ATC hold short instruction and went around them. Which was not very elegant, perhaps. Let me add that several minutes later I took off without hearing any further instruction for any of them. So I assume they stayed there for the night.

From now on I will only call them A Traffic.

Hah, yeah without custom AFCAD's the AI can get pretty messed up. I currently have 80 different airlines of AI loaded into FSX, so consequently I have about 300 custom AFCAD's installed to prevent major pileups...at the major airports of the world.

 Yes, I know it`s a matter of software but I can think of at least two words for these &^(%%* A software eaters that out of the blue show up and destroy your dream flight 30 yards before it`s competed.

Hi Joe,

Annoying aren't they? If you haven't done so already turn off your crash detect and they will happily pass through you like some spectral vehicle :o  :?

Well, that's an idea. Perhaps only while taxiing so the game doesn't lose its realism. Thanks Roger :D

Collision detection in FSX is pretty bad anyway. I had many a mishap where FSX thought I hit a building with my wing yet there was 8 or 9 feet to spare. Hence, I turned it off long ago.

Oh I would love good crash detection. But when I spend 30 min putting all the values in my FMC and waiting for IRS alignment et al for a 4 hr flight, do push back and randomly fsx decides that I crashed into some scenery object that does not exist I get rather irritated...and I try to avoid irritation...lol

Unfortunately you have to turn it off for on-line flying as you can get a crash just getting close to another colleagues aircraft on the taxiway. This is because FSHost etc may not accurately compute the aircraft's position to within a few metres.
